better late than never i guess
Hi!
Time flies when you're not paying attention. Sorry I'm late.
what I’m clicking:
Our obsession with Unicorn Food | The museum of hotel keys
what I’m wanderlusting:
This agave plantation in Mexico where I’d like to throw a party some day
what I’m watching:
I know people like to hate this show and there are so many reasons to hate it - especially the characters. I re-watched every single episode before watching the final season and it was so much fun. (Season 5 is still my favorite though).
I thought Pixar’s Up was the only movie that could make me cry in the first 15 minutes, but WOW this movie is sad. The only way this could be more sad is if it were about puppies. It’s very cheesy, but it’s based on a true story so it’s authentically cheesy, which is nice. Watch this movie if you like to feel sad and then happy but still a little sad.
what I’m writing about:
The Magic of India | The Hotel Surrounded by a Weed Forest | My Favorite Hotel in the World
what I’m coveting:
This absurdly expensive crop top and pantaloons set from Maryam Nassir Zadeh
what I’m listening to:
what I’m reading:
Elif Batuman
I kept being surprised by how much I liked this book. That's not to say that I loved it, but it just doesn't have the makings of a good book; the whole thing is basically the mundane details of the life of the world’s most boring college student. But somehow she's extremely likeable and the people she surrounds herself with and the situations she puts herself in are just so odd that it's really fun to read. I can tell that this writer is definitely smarter than me and most people in the world, and in between these goofy scenes there are these moments of stupidly brilliant ideas about language and communication and human interaction. One of my favorite things about this book was how much I could relate to it. Not the scenes at Harvard, obvi, but the scenes in the Hungarian countryside reminded me so much of my childhood in Eastern Europe… the humor and the teachers singing The Beatles to the kids and all the weird things she had to eat in her school lunches. I think out of many of the books I've read lately, this author is the one that I most want to be friends with.
Did it make me cry: No.
Did it make me laugh: Yes.
Did it make me miss a subways stop: No.
Would I recommend it: No, actually. It’s really long and I’m just not sure you’d like it.
Would I read it again: No.
Would it be a good movie: No.
Jill Santopolo
This book randomly turned up in a mystery package delivered to my office and my first reaction was “wow, this looks bad.” And you know what? It was bad, but I still thoroughly enjoyed reading it and could not put it down. I think I finished it in 24 hours.
Did it make me cry: Ugh! One small tear.
Did it make me laugh: No.
Did it make me miss a subways stop: I didn’t read it on the subway.
Would I recommend it: Please don’t read this book because I don’t want you to judge me for that one tear.
Would I read it again: Absolutely not.
Would it be a good movie: Yes! I mean, it would be absolutely horrible, but it could be made into a movie that people would watch.
what I’m reading right now:
the best book I read in April:
the best book I read in March:
the best book I read in February:
The Bone Clocks and Days of Abandonment
the best book I read in January:
what’s on my bookshelf waiting to be read:

Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
