hi
Hello!
Here's what I've been up to this week:
this week’s style icon:
This robot taking a selfie on Mars
what I’m wanderlusting:
New Caledonia
what I’m coveting:
Every linen jumpsuit from this Lithuanian Etsy shop.
what I’m reading:
Ruth Ware
Ugh this book! There were so many bad things about it but I still couldn’t put it down.
Did it make me cry: No.
Did it make me laugh: No.
Did it make me miss a subways stop: No, but that’s probably only because I didn’t read it on the train.
Would I recommend it: I would recommend it only if you have had a lot of trouble getting into a book recently. But I have to warn you that the main character is extremely cringe-y (a la Girl on the Train) and every other character in this book is one-dimensional.
Would I read it again: No.
Would it be a good movie: Yes! Why was this even a book in the first place? It should ONLY be a movie.
Katherine Heiny
I honestly cannot remember the last time a book made me laugh out loud this much.
Did it make me cry: No.
Did it make me laugh: So much.
Did it make me miss a subways stop: No.
Would I recommend it: If you’re looking for a beach read and you like clever books about rich people problems, sure.
Would I read it again: No.
Would it be a good movie: No. Maybe a TV series? There’s not really enough for a movie, since nothing really happens.
what I’m reading right now:
H Is For Hawk is still loitering around on my bedside table and The Shark Club just joined it too. I also just got an advance copy of Sour Heart from Lena Dunham’s new Lenny imprint, and it is heartbreakingly good.
the best book I read in May:
the best book I read in April:
the best book I read in March:
the best book I read in February:
The Bone Clocks and Days of Abandonment
the best book I read in January:
what’s on my bookshelf waiting to be read:
what books are on my list to buy (this will take me months to actually do):
Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien
Hot Milk by Deborah Levy
Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
M Train by Patti Smith
That Patty Hearst book
Seveneves by Neal Stephenson
The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born
What Belongs to You by Garth Greenwell
I Love Dick (which is being made into a TV show by Jill Soloway!)
After interviewing Helen Ellis, I added a few books from her “classic trashy” book club to my list.
