igloo life
Hello!
It almost feels like summer so I’ve been too busy daydreaming today instead of writing a newsletter. If you like what you see here, you can forward this to friends and have them sign up: tinyletter.com/theodora
this week’s style icon:
what I’m clicking:
These amazing photos of Saturn | Chani Nicholas on Lenny Letter | This NYT Mag article about people with open marriages (and depressingly bad interior design skills - what the HELL is that “under the sea” themed headboard?) | Chelsea Clinton’s WTF dream dinner party
what I’m wanderlusting:
The glass igloos at Kakslauttanen.
what I’m coveting:Ever since I saw Mike Garlington’s photo chapel at Burning Man in 2013, I’ve wanted to buy one of his prints.
what I’m reading:
John Freeman Gill
I enjoyed reading this book, although I think it’s deeply flawed. The main character is a 13-year-old boy, but he is just utterly unbelievable. The other thing that bothered me a little bit is how much it reeked of other (better?) books like City on Fire and The Goldfinch.
Did it make me cry: No.
Did it make me laugh: Yes, there were some funny quips.
Did it make me miss a subways stop: No.
Would I recommend it: I would recommend this to anybody who likes architecture and has a thing for 1970s New York.
Would I read it again: First I would need to find out how much of it is true, and then I would read this again and go on a treasure hunt of New York’s architectural secrets.
Would it be a good movie: Yes! It would be so so so good, but you’d have to do one major thing: turn the main character into a girl. It would make so much more sense.
what I’m reading right now:
H Is For Hawk. So far I find it totally and incredibly boring.
the best book I read in April:
the best book I read in March:
the best book I read in February:
The Bone Clocks and Days of Abandonment
the best book I read in January:
what’s on my bookshelf waiting to be read:
what books are on my list to buy (this will take me months to actually do):
Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien
Hot Milk by Deborah Levy
Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
M Train by Patti Smith
That Patty Hearst book
Seveneves by Neal Stephenson
The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born
What Belongs to You by Garth Greenwell
I Love Dick (which is being made into a TV show by Jill Soloway!)
After interviewing Helen Ellis, I added a few books from her “classic trashy” book club to my list.
What are you reading? (You can reply to this email and tell me)
