is it spring yet?
Hello!
Here’s what I’ve been up to:
what I’m clicking:
In defense of Comic Sans, the world’s most hated font | We are all Ivanka Trump’s neighbor, sipping wine in a fur coat | Twin Falls, Idaho, a.k.a. The Armpit of the American West, has made it into the NYT with an actually positive story | A brief history of gay-coded Disney villains | Responding to emails like a man | Daria, with wrinkles
what I’m coveting:
All the jewels from Gem Palace in Jaipur.
what I’m wanderlusting:
I found the house on Pantelleria where A Bigger Splash was filmed and I’d like to go on vacation there as soon as possible.
what I’m reading:
Ostensibly, this book is pretty bad. It’s rife with copyediting mistakes, it’s predictable, and the plot is absurd. But somehow, even after all that, it’s still an enjoyable little mystery. It’s like one long episode of Scooby Doo: The Hamptons.
Did it make me cry: No.
Did it make me laugh: No.
Did it make me miss a subways stop: No.
Would I recommend it: I would recommend it if you like trivial mysteries and beach towns in the off-season.
Would I read it again: No, but I have the sequel on my bedside table and I’m definitely going to read it and maybe even buy the 3rd book in the series.
Would it be a good movie: I don’t think so.
what I’m reading right now:
The Yellow Eyes of Crocodiles. It’s trashy, but it’s French trash.
the best book I read in March:
the best book I read in February:
The Bone Clocks and Days of Abandonment
the best book I read in January:
what’s on my bookshelf waiting to be read:
what books are on my list to buy (this will take me months to actually do):
Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien
Hot Milk by Deborah Levy
The new Bernadette book
Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
M Train by Patti Smith
That Patty Hearst book
Seveneves by Neal Stephenson
The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born
What Belongs to You by Garth Greenwell
After interviewing Helen Ellis, I added a few books from her “classic trashy” book club to my list.
What are you reading? (You can reply to this email and tell me)
