my summer reading list
Hello, here’s some stuff:
this week’s style inspo:
Junglepussy, styled by The Fader
what I’m clicking:
The New Yorker piece that made Anthony Bourdain famous | What white girl coming-of-age movies don’t do for a black girl | How journalism is a job for the rich | My favorite writer has realized she’s everyone’s favorite writer | Your next glass of wine might be a fake | Vice media is a company built on a bluff
what I’m listening to:
I FINALLY listened to Crimetown and, although the background music and sound mixing was EXCELLENT, I thought the story was sort of a let down. I expected there to be a bigger ending and a bigger exploration of Rhode Island’s criminal network as a whole, but really all of the episodes were just individual stories about different mob members tangentially related to each other. It was fun to listen to though.
what I’m wanderlusting:
Tuscany
what I’m coveting:
these boobie earrings
what I’m writing about:
reading:
Tayari Jones
I loved this book. I read it in one day and I couldn’t put it down. It was fascinating and juicy and also really scary at one point and I was just on the edge of my seat even though there are basically 3 characters in the whole book.
Did it make me cry: A little bit.
Did it make me laugh: No.
Did it make me miss a subway stop: I really need to change this question because I don’t really take the subway that much anymore.
Would I recommend it: YASSSSSS! I don’t think everyone will necessarily love it like I did, but I think you’ll find it to be really interesting and also a very unique story and narrative.
Would I read it again: I don’t know! I feel like there were so many perfect lines of wisdom and so many secrets buried in the pages that I would like to read it again one day… but there are too many fish in the sea.
Would it be a good movie: No, it would be impossible to translate this to film without it looking like a Lifetime movie.
*This book was our second book club meeting. Do you want to join the next one? We're reading High Seas
what I’m reading right now: The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born
