oops i forgot to read a book this week
Heyyyy
Here’s what I’ve been up to this week. I forgot to read a book though...
this week’s style icon:
Khalid wearing a tie-dye shirt and holding technicolor puppies in Charlie XCX’s Boys video
what I’m clicking:
My friend’s delightful short story about shopping for a pregnancy test | Update from my hometown newspaper: Idaho is getting a new area code | Patti Smith on Sam Shepard | I’m not like a regular bride, I’m a chill bride
what I’m wanderlusting:
Meow Wolf in Santa Fe. We had plans to visit when I was there last weekend, but the line was hundreds of people long and we were on a tight schedule. It’s a good excuse to plan another trip back to New Mexico.
what I’m coveting:
what I’m watching:
This is one of the most fun TV series I’ve watched in awhile, and since it’s only 8 episodes, I watched the whole thing in a week on Netflix. It’s cute and funny (although not as funny as Keegan-Michael Key probably thinks it is - that guy’s personality REALLY gets in the way of his looks) and at times relatable. It’s sort of this really sweet story about horrible people that you can’t help but like.
The Live-Action Version of Beauty and the Beast
I finally watched my first live-action Disney thing and it was… surprisingly good. I love the feminist bent this movie has and I love the gay spin they put on Gaston. I definitely wasn’t the biggest Beauty and the Beast fan as a kid (it’s too scary and there are animals that get hurt) but I enjoyed watching this. I will probably watch the live action version of Mulan (trans activism!) like 6 months after it comes out and I’m bored on an airplane.
I have been hearing about this movie everywhere (I guess because it’s set in Brooklyn?) and while the main character is totally adorable and I can’t wait to see what she’s in next, I found this movie to be just “meh”. Watch it if you loved Frances Ha.
what I’m reading right now:
I’m still reading The Luster of Lost Things, but I also started Georgia (about Georgia O’Keeffe!)
the best book I read in July:
the best book I read in June:
The Ministry of Utmost Happiness
the best book I read in May:
the best book I read in April:
the best book I read in March:
the best book I read in February:
The Bone Clocks and Days of Abandonment
the best book I read in January:
what’s on my bookshelf waiting to be read:
Anthropology of an American Girl
what books are on my list to buy (this will take me months to actually do):
Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien
Hot Milk by Deborah Levy
Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
M Train by Patti Smith
That Patty Hearst book
Seveneves by Neal Stephenson
The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born
What Belongs to You by Garth Greenwell
I Love Dick (which is being made into a TV show by Jill Soloway!)
After interviewing Helen Ellis, I added a few books from her “classic trashy” book club to my list.
