In general, books that describe an outfit by naming specific fashion designers (she carried a Chanel purse that matched her Louboutins...) do not do it for me. But there’s something so vivid and poisonous about this book. The main character is undeniably a bad person, but somehow you still end up rooting for her because she’s surrounded by vapid narcissists.
Did it make me cry: No.
Did it make me laugh: Yes.
Did it make me miss a subway stop: No, but it’s definitely a thriller--I couldn’t put it down.
Would I recommend it: If you’re looking for one of those ultimate beach reads, this is an excellent choice.
Would I read it again: No.
Would it be a good movie: I don’t know… I think the plot would come off as a little contrived and I can’t help feeling that somebody like Reese Witherspoon would want to executive produce this. But if you can make it really dark, with sort of a Kids or The Craft vibe, it might work out.
what I’m reading right now:
the best book I read in…
May: The Perfect Nanny
April: Conversations with Friends
March: History of Wolves
February: Homesick for Another World
January: Anthropology of an American Girl
